Research Misconduct

UMass Boston Research Misconduct Policy

At UMass Boston, we are committed to upholding the highest standards of research integrity. To foster an environment of ethical scholarship, our university provides clear guidelines for identifying, reporting, and addressing potential research misconduct. These guidelines ensure a fair and thorough process while protecting the rights of all parties involved.

Research misconduct—defined as fabrication, falsification, or plagiarism in proposing, performing, or reviewing research, or in reporting research results—undermines the integrity of scientific discovery and erodes public trust in research. Our procedures are designed to support a culture of accountability and transparency, in alignment with federal and institutional policies. For detailed information, please refer to the Procedures for Responding to Alleged Research Misconduct. This document outlines the roles, responsibilities, and processes for addressing research misconduct at UMass Boston.

Because the University takes this obligation seriously, we have continued to provide various mechanisms within the University to assist and encourage employees and students to come forward in good faith with reports or concerns about suspected research compliance issues, without fear of reprisal or retaliation. This hotline accepts reports via the internet and assures anonymity during the report intake process when requested.
